Upgrading our Evenings Docs

Our docs have a new home at evenings.fm/docs and here's why we rebuilt them.

When we first started building the Evenings platform and its API, we reached for whatever tools we could to get started easily. We used a really great resource called GitBook that allowed us to build and host documentation — completely free. For a small team, this was so useful for us. We didn't have to worry about designing our API documentation when other things were a priority. GitBook is a great tool and we still recommend it for any team.

However, we have grown and have more tools at our disposal... ahem coding agents ahem so building custom docs is not the cost it once was. More importantly, we wanted our documentation to feel more like us. Rebuilding it from scratch gives us that control — we can bake our branding directly into the docs and build them exactly how we want.

Lastly, keeping it honest with you, as an independent business, we are keen to develop some of that sweet sweet SEO. Bringing docs back inside the house was also a strategic move. We want every guide we write, like how to broadcast internet radio with OBS, to be little hook to our website for people searching for exactly that. This will help us keep growing organically and help us support more internet radio stations.

So say hello to the new and improved Evenings Docs — a new home for everything you need to know to broadcast on Evenings, from your first stream to building on the API.

What you'll find there

Everything is grouped so you can find what you need at the moment you need it:

• Guides — step-by-step walkthroughs for streaming with OBS or Audio Hijack, broadcasting prerecorded audio, embedding the player, and more
• API Reference — complete documentation for the Events API and Tracks API, with real request and response examples

Building your station your way

At Evenings, we have always believed in giving you the ability to run a station your way. That means allowing you to build on top of Evenings. That means making it really easy to embed an HTML stream on your own website. It also means supporting a strong API platform and maintaining the documentation for it so it's easy to use. Check out our new Events API that will allow you to build your schedule into your own website.
